At First Baptist Church of Bethany we encourage you to get into a small group.
I. So what is a small group?
A small group is a weekly gathering of three or more people who meet in a home. They hang out, study the Word, worship, encourage one another, and pray together.
Groups come in all shapes and sizes and are established for many purposes. They may range from married couples, singles, men’s, women’s, kids, no kids, workplace, under 20, over 40 - the list goes on! No matter where you are in life, there’s a group for you.
II. A Healthy Christian:
A healthy Christian is a balanced Christian. There are 5 key areas a Christian must have in constant balance if they desire to mature in their faith. These areas include disciplship, ministry, fellowship, worship, and evangelism. We discover these principles when we reflect on the early church in Acts 2:42-47.
"42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and
many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common . 45 And they were selling
their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day , attending the temple together and breaking
bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to
their number day by day those who were being saved."
1.) Disciplship: They devoted their lives to discipleship by studying the word and listening to the apostles' teachings.
2.) Fellowship: They freqeuntly vivsted one another in their homes, sharing in meals and praying for one another. The home was the center of discipleship.
3.) Ministry: They ministered to one another according to each others needs.
4.) Evangelism: They would go to the temple daily in order to share the good news of Jesus (evangelize) to their Jewish friends.
5.) Worship: They worshiped the Lord with one another.
